A small donut chain originating from Kobe, Hara Donuts certainly does not have the feel of its more visible big-brand competition. The interior is tiny and bathed in soft whites, down to the well-worn white-washed plank floor.
As you enter, there is literally only standing room and a display case with eight or so varieties of donuts on offer. The type of donuts will differ each visit, but usually there will be old reliables such as cinnamon and sugar and brown sugar available. Donuts are of the plain cake variety, but are lighter and eggier than other shops. As the donuts are made in batches as they are required, to get the best product, it's best to avoid late in the afternoon as they approach closing time.
As there is literally, no place to sit, patrons are urged to enjoy their donut with a coffee from Bear Pond Espresso directly across the street, which fares only slightly better with extremely limited seating.
